This still holds true if you remove all of the retail elements (which i DO disagree with). The other aspects: the carol singing, social events, decorations etc. should accompany the process of advent which starts on December 1. I remember the glories of hot chocolate and bacon. When I used to eat bacon, that is. Which I don't now of course. Sorry. Rambling.) Yeah, what's the point of Christmas? I know it means different things to different people, and that's fine. And shops and businesses are trying to maximise their profits. You can't blame them for that. I guess the "run-up" is to let you know that it's on its way, and no, you can't stop it! Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat...
